mencoder

The other day I decided to write a blog on some of the movies I have seen in the past few weeks. I particularly wanted to upload small clips which I thought were the best sequences of the respective movies. I never got around to doing that because of YouTube copyright  laws. However this post is not about that. I wanted to tell you how to ‘snip’ out a small section of a video as a clip.

Install mencoder. It is a command line utility that gives you tonnes of features for video related tasks.

mencoder -ss 01:01:23 -endpos 01:03:19 -ovc copy -oac copy movie.avi -o clip.avi

The above command will create a new avi file clip.avi that will contain video content of movie.avi between 01:01:23 and 01:03:19.

I guess you meant “mencoder -ss 01:01:23 -endpos 01:03:19 -ovc copy -oac copy movie.avi -o clip.avi”, because -o option specifies the output file…
